The Big Buddha
Ref No. 42 | Updated: January 24, 2013
The Prabuddha Mingmongkol Akenakkiree or more commonly known as the Big Buddha, is a 45 metre tall and 25 metre wide Buddha statue on the top of Nakkerd Hill, one of the highest hills of Phuket. The easiest route to visit this popular tourist point is to drive south along Chao Fah West Road, pass the famous Wat Chalong and then look out after 2 kilometers on the right side of the road for Soi Yot Sane 1. In front of the soi you should see large signs for the Big Buddha. Turn right into the soi and follow the 6 km narrow, steep road that will take you up to the Big Buddha. From this hill top you will get a wonderful bird’s eye view of Kata and Karon, Chalong Bay and most of the south of the island.
