Heroines’ Monument
Ref No. 398 | Updated: January 24, 2013
Every year on March 13th to 15th people gather at the Heroines’ Monument to pay respect and place offerings to the two sisters, Thao Thep Kasattri (Lady Jan) and Thao Sri Sunthorn (Lady Mook), who helped to organise the successful defense of the town of Thalang, the former capital of the island, against Burmese invaders in 1785. Visitors can enjoy the fair which is similar in atmosphere to a temple fair, with a wide variety stalls with games, food, and plenty of clothes and other inexpensive items for sale. There are also sound and light shows including live concerts from famous Thai country music singers.
