Kamala Tsunami Monument
Ref No. 212 | Updated: December 22, 2012
The Kamala Tsunami Monument in Kamala Beach is was built as a memorial to commemorate the Boxing Day Tsunami which devastated parts of the west coast of the island in 2004. The park is located opposite the Print Kamala Resort close to the middle of Kamala Beach. The main feature of the park is the metal sculpture titled “Heart of the Universe”. Created by Thai artist Udon Jiraksa, the sculpture is made out of metal wire in the form of a wave. Every year on the anniversary of the tsunami ceremonies take place here with prayers and laying of wreaths.
