Racha Yai Island is the larger of the two Racha Islands, and is situated in the stunning blue Andaman Sea around 20 minutes by speed boat south of Phuket. You can board a boat from either Chalong Pier or Rawai Beach where there are daily speed boat and long-tail services to the island. The island has 5 fiveeaches all of which are worth exploring, especially Lha Beach which is perhaps the best for snorkeling, while those who love sunbathing may prefer spending time on sandy Pa-Tok Beach. The island is popular with day trippers and can get busy at certain times. After dusk things become much more quieter and relaxing and is the time to try out some of the local restaurants or to walk along the beach looking up at the sparkling stars overhead.
