Home & Life Orphanage Foundation

Home & Life currently looks after 26 children between the ages of 5 and 18. The children come to the foundation mainly because their own families are unable to look after them for various reasons such as poverty and family breakdown. The foundation ensures that every child goes to school so that they receive an education and access to healthcare.

Here at Home & Life, we live as a family. The staff children and volunteers live and learn together, sharing every experience and taking care of each other there are separate dormitory rooms for the Boys and Girls, an activity room  for painting, games, reading and learning,  a Thai kitchen where fresh food is prepared everyday for the children, staff and volunteers  and one Western Kitchen ( The Bakery).

PROJECTS
The foundation is currently developing various income generating projects to help with the daily and long term funding of the organization, the children also  get involved with the projects allowing them to develop valuable life skills and  to build their confidence.

CURRENT PROJECTS
Home & Life Bakery &  Coffee Shop

An onsite Bakery and coffee shop opened in Feb 2012 selling freshly made bread, muffins and cookies, coffee and soft drinks. The orphanage is located on the Pechkasem road which is the main road to the popular tourist destination of  KAO-LAK beach and town, so visitors will often stop off at the bakery for  rest and refreshments on their way to the beaches. The foundation also makes muffins and cookies to sell at the Ban Ngiang market every Saturday during tourist season. The coffee shop is open every day between 8.30am – 6.00pm, visitors to the coffee shop are also welcome to look around the foundation.

Garden  The children also learn and practice agricultural skills in the Organic Garden,   we try to grow as much of our own fruit, vegetables and herbs as possible. It is our aim to eventually to sell the produce from the gardens to local hotels and restaurants in order to bring in more revenue for the orphanage.

Handicrafts The children love to get creative and we sell some of their beautiful drawings, hand painted T-shirts and bags in the coffee shop.  All proceeds from the sale of each handicraft item  goes directly  to the child that made the item. The children have their own individual savings accounts and they can pay the money in to this, teaching them a valuable lesson about working and saving money.

DANCING some of the older children are given lessons in Thai dancing, they are taught by Kate who was a professional dancer and teacher until the Tsunami. The foundation is paid for some of the performances they put on within the local area,  it’s another way of trying to raise funds.
