Wat Phra Thong Temple (Pra Tong Temple)
3.8 out of 5 based on 6 reviews.
Thalang, North Phuket

The fairly small Wat Phra Tong or Pra Tong Temple, means the Golden Buddha Temple is located in Thalang, which if driving towards Phuket Airport on the main Airport Road 402 is no the right just after the main traffic light controlled Thalang junction.

Within the grounds are a number of temples, and a small museum with some tin mining artifacts. The main temple has been built around a half buried large Buddha image, that was discovered hundreds of years ago.

  1. For several years now that I make a merit at this temple on my birthday. Especially, this year I have a medal of worship. I like the peaceful atmosphere and lush greenery surrounding the temple grounds, although there are many tourists on some days.

  3. We were here on our way back from Phang Nga. Our driver told us that this is one of must visit place in Phuket. Famous for a half-buried golden Buddha statue, only the head and shoulders are visible. We shaked a bamboo box which full of little sticks (shaked until one falls out) then get a number on the stick. A printed piece of paper with a number tells our fortune. Really amazing!!!

  4. Must visit place if you come to Phuket. The half-buried golden Buddha is really amazing! Our Thai friend told us the legend, very interesting. The temple is not big, has beautiful and colorful features also museum with donated historical things such as tin mining paraphernalia, Javanese daggers, Chinese’s feet reducing shoes, etc.

  5. The hidden half Buddha Statue story about the temple is interesting. Not a huge temple so only took 40 minutes to look around. Had a car park and is sign posted from the airport rd. Worth a look if in the north of the island but not worth a special trip

  6. Wat Pra Tong is one of my favorite temple. I always go there with my family on the weekend. My friend from Bangkok also ask me to drop here every time when they come to Phuket. We know the legend from old people who live around this temple. Pra Tong is amazing for us.
