Phuket cricket could be said to have arrived when on the 16th February 2012 the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Members Eleven, from Lords, the home of cricket, played their first game of a two week tour of Thailand with a T20 match at the ACG.

The ACG since having its first game in early November 2011, the Phuket Cricket Group (PCG) and ACG have hosted several high profile tours including an eleven from the long-established Singapore Cricket Club, the Delhi Viceroys, and the Cricket Association of Thailand National Team vs Asian Invitational XI which featured former Bangladesh test captain, Aminul Islam.

The Alan Cooke Cricket Ground (ACG) is located in a quiet area of Thalang district. When driving from the Heroines Monument, it takes us only around 5 minutes drive north along Thepkarasattri Road and turn left for local road number 3032. The cricket ground can be found approximately 1 km after turning left from Thepkarasattri Road.

  1. The Alan Cooke Cricket Ground (ACG) is tucked away on Soi Huahart Sainai in Thalang District north of the Heroine’s Monument. Since hosting their first match in November 2011, the ACG has hosted many high profile tournaments with teams such as the Delhi Viceroys, Singapore Cricket Club, Thailand National Team and Asian Invitational XI. The ground has been approved and supported by the Sport Authority of Phuket & Thailand. Besides, ACG is also the home ground for a number of field sports and social events that take place in Phuket. Facilities here include a clubhouse, bar with snooker table and darts, and ample parking.

  2. Watched the international sixes tournament here earlier in the year. Being Phuket’s only cricket ground its not bad with a decent clubhouse which has a bar upstairs with a great vantage point. Its great to see cricket being promoted in Thailand and especially Phuket and I wish them all the best.

  3. Being an expat and having lived in Phuket for a few years now, it’s very encouraging that specialist facilities such as Alan Cooke Cricket Ground are now being built and offer something new to the local community and are also attracting other visitors to Phuket. It’s not just the sporting facilities, but also the social events at the clubhouse that help bring together an (at times) dispersed community. We had a great evening a couple of months ago watching live bands at the clubhouse. The youth training camps offered also provide much needed diversity for Phuket youths who would otherwise never have the opportunity to try their hand at the sport. Who knows, there very well may be the next Ian Botham or Imran Khan to come out of ACG Phuket.
