Sorry, Phuket Butterfly Garden & Insect World was closed permanently in March 2015.
The Phuket Butterfly Garden & Insect World consists of various sections. The first section is the Insect Museum, which has information and displays of the evolution and origins of insects compared to humans and dinosaurs, different types of butterflies, and the difference between moths and butterflies You will also see scorpions and tarantulas as well as social insects such as ants in this section.
The Insect Museum leads in to the butterfly garden which has about 35 to 40 different species of butterflies flying around, plus also eggs and caterpillars. It is better to visit on a warm day, when butterflies tend to be more active. Don’t forget your camera as there are good photo opportunities.
The garden also has a pond where the kids and young at heart can feed the carp and other fish.
Attached to the Butterfly is the Live Insect Section that houses huge size millipedes, stick insects, crickets and other insects.
Lastly there is the bee yard, where you can see honey bees at work. Entry to the bee yard is restricted and not always possible as staff need to be present and supervise visitors. Safety clothing must be worn.
All the butterflies and insects are bred on site and a number of them are set free and back to nature, with the hope that they will breed naturally and their numbers increase.
The Phuket Butterfly Garden & Insect World is located in Sam Kong, on the edge of Phuket Town. It is situated between the Tesco Lotus Extra Mall and Rajabhat University Phuket. It is off the main road, but is fairly well sign posted, so not very difficult to find.
