Introduction to Amphawa
An administrative district of Samut Songkrham province, Amphawa is famous for its floating market which is not only a tourist attraction but is popular with local Thais who flock there on the weekends to buy a whole range of goods including souvenirs, fruits and a wide range of snacks and delicacies. The market is partly floating and on land alongside the Maeklong River and countryside canals that harken back to an earlier time when most Thai people in this part of the kingdom lived their lives on canal and river banks. From the market you can take a 3 hour cruise on a ferry along the river while taking in the picturesque countryside views. There is plenty of accommodation in Amphawa including a growing number of hotels and friendly guest houses although if you are staying in the weekend it is advisable to book well in advance as the area can get busy.
