Introduction to Riverside

Amphawa is a small village lying some 63 km west of Bangkok in Samut Songkram Province. The lively Amphawa Floating Market is the major attraction in the Amphawa - Riverside area and is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 3 pm to 9 pm. The market still retains the traditional lifestyle of local people that sell and buy goods on their boats along the canal and riverbank. You can also find a number of stalls, restaurants, vintage style cafes, chic souvenir shops and wooden shop houses selling various products ranging from fresh fruits to Thai sweets. A 2 hour long-tail boat trip is a good way to explore the network of small canals that run through shady fruit orchards and alongside temples and local houses. Visitors who wish to indulge in the riverside district of Amphawa's laid-back atmosphere can stay overnight in one of the boutique guesthouses or homestay accommodation and join the impressive firefly sighting tour here in the evening.
