Introduction to Don Muang

Located to the north of Bangkok's city centre, Don Muang is the gateway from the city to the north and northeast of Thailand. The area is best known as the site of the city's second airport, once the main international airport. Nowadays, it handles mainly domestic and budget airline flights. The popular Jae Leng Plaza Shopping Centre is a good place to kill time while waiting for a flight and can be reached by a 5 minutes taxi ride from the airport. There are many 3-4 star hotels in Don Muang district, but also plenty of budget hotels can also be found. Within a 30 minute taxi ride, visitors who stay in this area can visit a plenty nearby points of interest such as Koh Kret where there are a number of handicraft and pottery shops as well as traditional Thai food and dessert stores, especially on the weekend. Also within easy reach are the famous Chatuchak Weekend Market, Children’s Discovery Museum and Wachira Benjatas Garden.
