Introduction to Pratunam - Makkasan

Pratunam – Makkasan is a hub of lively shopping and commerce in the downtown area of Bangkok. A heaven for shopaholics, Pratunam is best known as a large cloth and garment market but there are also a number of air-conditioned malls selling cheap fashion items. Also nearby are Bangkok’s major shopping malls which include Siam Discovery Centre, Central World and Paragon where you can find a wide selection of brand name goods and a plethora of restaurants and dining outlets. As one of the main downtown districts there are many classes of accommodation from budget hostels to luxury 5 star hotels available. The Pratunam – Makkasan area is very busy during peak rush hours so if you need to go somewhere by car or taxi make sure you allow plenty of time. A better option is the Saen Saep longtail boat service which runs from Pratunam along Sukhumvit to Bangkapi. If you are heading to Suvarnabhumi International Airport take the Airport Rail Link from the Bangkok City Air Terminal in Makkasan.
