Introduction to Chiang Dao

Chiang Dao is located in the northern part of Chaing Mai, about 72 km from the city centre. The best way to get to Chiang Dao from the centre of Chiang Mai is by an 1.30 hour bus ride from Chang Puak Bus Station in town. The area is well known for its caves and mountainous landscape, as well as abundant wildlife, particularly for bird watchers. While staying here, visitors can enjoy various fun-filled activities such as trekking and rafting. There are only a few resort style accommodations set among the natural surroundings, some boasting scenic views of the river and rice fields. A popular attraction in the area is Chiang Dao Caves where visitors can contact local guide for exploring inside the 5 halls of the cave complex. Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary is another remarkable place which is home to Doi Luang Chiang Dao, a limestone mountain with a height of 2,195 metres above sea level. Nature lovers can stay at the local campsite and climb up to the peak to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, which is best visited in the morning.
