Introduction to Mae Ping River
At 658 kilometers long, the Mae Ping River is one of the most important rivers of Thailand. The start of the river is in the verdant lush mountain range of Pee Pan Nam in Chiang Dao district. The river then joins the Mae Ngud and Mae Tang rivers before flowing into the reservoir at the Bhumibol Dam. A wide range of hotels and resorts from 3 stars to 5 stars are available for visitors to choose from. Around 160 km south of Chiang Mai is the popular Mai Mae Ping National Park. This park has an area of about 1,000 sq.km, and is part of provinces: Chiang Mai, Lamphun and Tak. Nature lovers and campers will appreciate the stunning views of the mountain range, the river and the azure sky at over 1,200 metres above sea level. You can visit many falls and caves in the park while jungle trekking for wildlife watching is also on offer. For visitors staying in Chiang Mai City, you can take a half day boat trip to admire the gorgeous scenery along the Ping River.
