Introduction to Old City

Situated in the downtown area of Chiang Mai, the old city is dates back to 700 years ago and is still encircled by the remains of the ancient city wall and moat. The major attractions of the Old City include more than 30 temples that showcase fine examples of Lanna architecture and art. Of these, Wat Chiang Man is the oldest, and was once the camp of King Mangrai during the construction of the capital of the Lanna kingdom. Wat Chedi Luang is also a must-visit site for history lovers due to its 82-meter high stupa. Other temples in a short walk are Wat Pan Tao and Wat Phra Singh.
