Introduction to Mae Chan

Formerly known as Chiang San and poised in the northern province of Chaing Rai, Mae Chan district is found approximately 30 km from the Chiang Rai City, and is an idyllic district that offers a wide range of accommodation from budget to luxurious. Notable attractions are the Doi Mae Salong where you can see the beautiful Wild Himalayan Cherry flowers, the smallest of the Sakura family, which bloom yearly between December and February. The Buddha Cave is a cultural attraction which is very unusual in Thailand. This temple is found within a cavern on a high hill in a remote area so that the monks need to ride horses when they leave the temple to receive offerings. Other points of interest where you can visit are the hill tribe villages and the hot springs at Pa Tueng.
