Introduction to Mae Fa Luang

Roughly 50 km from Chiang Rai International Airport to the northwest of the Chaing Rai City, Mae Fah Luang is nestled in the lush mountain ranges along the border with Myanmar, in the area that is commonly referred to as the Golden Triangle. For visitors who wish to stay in the area there are a handful of 3 and 4 star hotels to be found. Natural attractions inlcude Doi Hua Mae Kham, which is a high peak at 1,850 metres above sea level, and is a home of Hmong, Lisu and Akha hill tribes. Here you can enjoy the fabulous surrounding views, as well as learning about the traditional customs of the hill tribes. If you visit during November to December be sure to check out the fields where Mexican Sunflowers are grown. A visit to Doi Tung is highly recommended where you can find the magnificent Royal Palace where you can explore the Hall of Inspiration, Mae Fah Luang Garden and Mae Fah Luang Arboretum. Other places of interest include Mae Fah Luang University and the Doi Tung Development Project.
