Introduction to Mae Suay

A 50 minute drive to the southwest of Chiang Rai City, Mae Suay district has an idyllic picturesque environment and a number of natural attractions. Some mid-range resorts are available in Mae Suay as well as cheaper hotels and guest houses. Tham Mae Suay cave, located 5 km north of Mae Suay town, boasts enchanting stalactites and stalagmites. Doi Wawee is located high in the hills and is an area that remains an unspoilt and authentic part of Thailand. Here are ethnic Lahu villages set amongst the tranquil countryside. This region has many water falls such as the popular Tad Luang Falls, Huay Han Falls and Huay Chompoo Falls. Even though Wat Rong Khun is outside Mae Suay, you can take a 30 minute car ride along the way to Chiang Rai City to visit this famous white temple.
