Introduction to Hua Hin

Located roughly 200 kilometers south of Bangkok, Hua Hin is a 5-kilometer white sandy beach. As well as international tourists, this lovely seaside town is also popular as a weekend getaway destination for Bangkokians. The beach runs from a rocky headland from which it takes its name, Hua Hin means “Rock Head” in Thai, and gently curves for some three kilometers to the south where the Giant Standing Buddha is located at the foot of Khao Takiap. Hua Hin became the kingdom’s first beach resort when a train line was built from the capital in the 1920s. During that period, King Rama VII built a summer retreat and which has continued to be enjoyed by the present King to this day. While offering a tranquil atmosphere, Hua Hin is also a great place for fun-filled activities ranging from some of the country’s finest golf courses to horse riding, kite boarding, and other water sports. Other attractions include markets, temples, and delicious seafood restaurants.
