Introduction to Kalasin
Famous for its hilly landscape, Kalasin is located in the northeast of Thailand is primarily known as a fertile agricultural province which produces a large amount of rice, cassava and sugar cane. Kalasin is home to a number of sights including the Phraya Chaisunthon Monument, which is a life-sized monument of a man depicted holding a teapot and a magic sword. Wat Klang is a temple which houses an image of black Buddha that is used in rituals in order to pray for rain and also for worship. Other attractions include Phu Kum Khayo where archaeologists have found a large amount of dinosaur fossils from the Jurassic era. Kalasin has several festivals as well including the Red Cross fair that features a beauty pageant and a colourful parade. The Wichit Phrae Wa Silk Festival is another festival which is held to honour Queen Sirikit who was able to bring about awareness of the silk industry within the Kalasin region, which boosted the economy and created more diverse jobs within the province.
