Introduction to Koh Chang

Lying along the eastern seaboard in the Gulf of Thailand and just a short distance from the Cambodian border, Koh Chang is Thailand’s third largest island and is part of the Koh Chang National Marine Park. The interior of the islands is very mountainous and is still remains covered in pristine rainforests. Unlike the kingdom’s other large islands such as Phuket and Samui, Koh Chang remains quite undeveloped and is a haven for backpackers and travellers seeking a more serene and laid back atmosphere while enjoying the island’s gorgeous long sandy beaches. The best beaches are found on the west coast and include Sai Khao, Kai Mook and Laem Bang Bao beaches, where you will find most of the bungalow accommodation and hotels. There is good snorkelling and diving off the beaches and particularly around the nearby islands. Other popular activities include sea kayaking, jungle trekking, and visiting the island’s many beautiful waterfalls such as Klong Nueng and Klong Plu. The best time of year to visit Koh Chang is during the dry season from November to April.
