Introduction to Thong Sala

Thong Sala is known as the gateway to Koh Pha Ngan with its main town and ferry pier. To get to this pier from Donsak Pier on the mainland of Surat Thani, it is around 2 hours ferry ride away. Those who start their trip from Nathon Pier on Samui Island, they will spend shorter time or around 45 minutes on ferry. One of the very beautiful islands, accessible within 1.30 hour boat ride from Thong Sala Pier is Koh Tao which is a famous diving and snorkeling destination of the Gulf of Thailand. As Thong Sala is the major administrative center of the island, so what travelers can find here is every kind of facilities and services including government offices, police station, post office, banks, a lot of shops and various restaurants. It goes without saying that this is a jumping off point to the nearby islets rather than a destination in itself, therefore there are only a small number of hotels and guesthouses which are good enough for overnight visitors.
