Introduction to Ranong
Ranong is located in southern Thailand on the Andaman Sea coast and is the kingdom’s most sparsely populated province. Some of the attractions in Ranong include the Rattanarangsarn Palace. This palace was built as the throne hall for King Rama V during 1890 and is perched on a hilltop. It was later dismantled and then rebuilt closer to the city using the original teak wood construction and architecture. The hot springs and Raksawarin Public Park are another tourist attraction. These were visited by King Rama V in 1890 also and there are three natural spring pools which are frequented by tourists. The water within the pools is always a constant 65 degrees Celsius making it a true natural wonder. For those seeking an idyllic tropical island with very little development, Koh Phayam is great for its sandy beaches and tasty cashews. There are only a small number of bungalow accommodation on the island making it the perfect island getaway. Most of the island is supported through fisheries and the nut plantations. There are a number of sea gypsies which live on the island as well allowing a tourist a glimpse into a style of living which is not seen in many places around the world.
