Introduction to Koh Phayam

Koh Phayam is an unspoiled island off the west coast of Ranong Province. It is is mainly visited by young backpackers who want to escape from other crowded tourist destinations. It is accessible by 2 hours long tail boat ride, or 40 minutes speedboat trip from Chao Koh Pier, close to the main police station on the mainland. The major gateway of the island is Ao Mae Mai where are located the major pier, some food stalls and various restaurants. There is a small concrete road that starts from this bay and leads to the other parts of the island. One thing that every visitor to this island should realize is that this is a car free area, thus getting around is only by a motorbike taxi, or you can hire a motorbike. The inland contains agricultural tourism spot where you can see cashew nut plantation. To learn about rural life, visiting sea gypsy village is an interesting option. Accommodation at Ao Yai or Sunset Bay are mostly low-key beach bungalows, while the ones at Buffalo Bay are boutique, higher grade resorts with more facilities.
