Introduction to Old City

UNESCO registered the area of Sukhothai Old City as a world heritage since July 1988. It is only 12 kilometers if you stay in the city centre, but a number of inexpensive resorts and guesthouses are available around Sukhuthai Historical Park and it is more convenient for those who wish to exhaustively explore the park. The old city is encircled by the moat and the ancient city walls, while the inner area is compose of a palace, monastery ruins and the city gates. Tourists can rent a non-motorbike or use a tram service to enjoy sightseeing in the area. It is a good idea to admire the old city in the nighttime (from 6 to 9 pm) as the weather is not too hot and the old city is under the lighting. Outside the square of the moat, there are myriad monastery ruins to visit, and the popular are Wat Si Chum, Wat Chang Lom, Wat Phra Phai Luang, and many more.
