Introduction to Surat Thani

Situated along the Gulf of Thailand in the south of the country, Surat Thani Province boasts a wide variety of popular attractions. Its coastal area include three of the country's most popular holiday island destinations in Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao, as well as the picturesque Mu Koh Ang Thong National Marine Park with its chain of 42 small islands. Inland the province is also blessed with rich natural wonders including Khao Sok National Park, home to the oldest rainforests in the world. As well as trekking and rafting, visitors to this national park can enjoy staying on raft houses at Ratchaprapha Dam and exploring the spectacular scenery of this wonderful man-made lake that has been described as a freshwater version of Phang Nga Bay with its islands and soaring limestone cliffs. The city of Surat Thani is often overlooked by travellers as simply a stop-off point for catching the ferry to one of the islands but there is plenty to see and do including visiting the local temples and markets.
