Introduction to Khong Chiam

Khong Chiam is the easternmost district, which lies about 75 km from Muang District of Ubon Ratchathani Province. The travelers can reach there by 1.30 hours bus ride from the Bus Terminal in the city center, or for more convenience, car rental is recommended. Only 5 minutes boat ride will lead you to see the two-color river in front of Khong Chiam Temple. Here, the blue Mun River and the brown Khong River are joined and there are some simple style resorts to be found on the riverbank. The well worth visiting, natural and historical attraction is Pha Taem National Park of which the landscape here is characterized by the sand stone formations, cliffs, caves, waterfalls and flower filed. The park has many points of interest, and the major symbol is Pha Taem Cliff, where the finest prehistoric paintings in Thailand can be observed. Another impressive site is Sang Chan Waterfall or Namtok Long Ru that has the unique characteristic of the stream falling down the opening of the rocky cliff.
