Phuket Country Club
The Phuket Country Club was the first championship standard course to be built in Phuket opening in 1989 and is home to numerous competitions throughout the year. As with most of the golf courses in Phuket it is built on the site of an old tin mine making great use of the mined out areas that became flooded as water hazards, and there are a number of them.
There are 2 courses here although many never find the 9-hole course across the road and many that do wish they had not as there are water hazards on 8 of the 9 holes, some of the holes having more than 1 water hazard.
The feature hole on the main course is the 10th where you can take the safe route and cut the corner of the lake and play 2 more shots to get on the green or take on the lake and drive to the green for a chance of a birdie – be warned you need to clear 240 yards from the white tee to be on dry land.
The course is well established and underwent extensive refurbishment in 2012. A par 72 course of just under 6,500 yards provides an enjoyable round to high handicappers but still challenging enough for those who shoot low.
