Phuket Race Week
The annual Phuket Race Week is based at the Evason Phuket Resort and presents a full week of international-standard yacht racing of Phuket's east coast for a wide range of yachts. Held during the breezy month of July each low season, it perfectly divides the long time span between the local and international races from November to May each year.
With highly competitive top sailors coming from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia and of course throughout Thailand the organizers Image Asia Events with Directors Grenville Fordham and Andy Dowden, under the auspices of Ao Chalong Yacht Club, are optimistic about the growth potential in the future.
Inaugurated in 2004, Phuket Race Week is now billed as one of Asia's most exciting low season mixed fleet regattas. The 2005 event almost doubled the number of entries of the first year, making it comparable in size with other regattas in the region. The usually strong monsoon winds from the southwest, Phuket Race Week is a challenge for even the most skilled sailors. The next Phuket Race Week will be under sail again from 23-27 July 2008.
