“We're glad we left the spa till the last day of our holiday. Browse through after your treatment and you'll find you're far from alone in the way Montra Spa has made you feel.
Approaching the spa entrance, you know you're in for something special. The sumptuous, almost regal, décor is a world away from the ‘outdoorsy' experience you might find elsewhere. Descending the wide, opulent staircase, you begin to get a sense of what awaits you. Greeted by your tranquil spa host, sit and relax a moment while she explains the extensive spa menu and describes the treatments available. Select the essential oil that suits your mood.
Next, my wife and I were led by our smiling therapists to a private suite comprising steam room, surprisingly spacious Jacuzzi, superbly powerful ensuite showers and massage area. All wonderfully furnished in muted traditional Thai style. Relaxing. Sumptous. Elegant.
Once our cares had faded under the effects of aromatic herbal steam and Jacuzzi, we moved on to the next phase in our special couples' package. Normally, this would have been within our private suite, but we wanted to explore so had asked for a different room. Here we had a magnificent panoramic view across the northern end of Ao Nang Bay. We had mixed and matched from the ‘Luxurious Packages' section of the menu, starting with an Aromatherapy Body Salt Glow, a body polishing treatment using freshly ground salts with pure lavender essential oil to re-mineralise and smooth the skin. A lotion massage concluded the treatment. The result? After showering away the salt… skin like velvet.
Next, a Swedish Aromatic and Deep Tissue Massage, using the essential oils we had selected earlier. I had planned to enjoy the view outside during my massage, but the gentle, yet firm, pressure lulled me into a comfortable doze, and suddenly (actually an hour later!) my therapist quietly awoke me for a leisurely shower and change, before returning to reception to enjoy a refreshing herbal drink and a browse through that visitors' book.
Why did I choose that particular quote from the many accolades written by previous clients? Quite simply because we could empathise with the sentiment. I wanted to return next day. To work through every one of their tantalizing treatments. To be looked after and pampered; in short, to be made to feel as special each day – and as thoroughly relaxed – as I felt when I said goodbye to our hosts.
